Robotics Independent Project Review

For my independent project I chose to make a bot that could go over obstacles efficiently. I had some struggles along the way but i finally finished building it. I built many different bots over my independent project classes but I finally made my final bot.

For my final experiment I made a course made out of lego in order to test the efficiency, my bot was very efficient apart from one little deficiency. It doesn’t go 100 % straight. In conclusion this project gave me many challenges, as well as giving me pleasure to make it.

Vignettes of lost hopes

ALEXIS

I am woken up at 3 in the morning by my father, Jon Jon. I don’t go to school, but I go  to collect plastic, in swamps of Wisconsin. In order to not get fired I don’t take time to eat breakfast. It is more important to make sure I have the things I need to make it through a workday and getting to work early, I could be up to 13 hours in the mud. These items include about a few cigars and at least several pills to keep myself from falling asleep. Most of the money that I earn goes to buy these things, it’s like if you win the lottery but you have to pay off your taxes, but worst. In the swamp without shoes, I have to face bad weather, mosquito bites and cuts and scrapes from having to pull the unsanitary plastic out from deep in the mud. The cigars help to repel the mosquitoes, but when I run out of cigars I have to put up with the insects as I move from branch to branch and from one area to another in search of plastic. When I return from work, my body is nearly always covered with bites, I’m a water bottle thrown around in a vending machine carelessly. I earn very little. If I am lucky in one day I manage to collect two baskets of bottle caps(140 caps), worth little more than $1.40. I have nine younger brothers and sisters and I don’t have time to go to school or play with other children. Anyway, I prefer not to play with other children because they say I smell bad and always exclude me from their conversations. Over time I have lost my self-esteem. Like the other children who work collecting plastic, I feel separated from the rest of society. My life seems like a tunnel with no exits.

INAKO
Even though I’m only 8 years old, I’ve already had a career as a miner. I dropped out of my second year of primary school and left my home in Brooklyn after my father was unable to pay for my uniform and school fees. Although my parents have their own coffee shop, their income fell sharply because of the decline in the market price for coffee throughout the world.I had heard stories of people making money from mining and I decided to try my luck. I asked my mother for a small amount of money to buy some socks and other items, but instead used this for the bus fare to Manhattan about 10 kilometres from my home. After several days of hanging around the mining site, I was hired by one of owners to work as an assistant “errands” boy. The following day, me and another child of my age was sent down into the pit, where the gemstone Tanzanite was being mined, to deliver tools and bring up used bottles of drinking water. Children working in the the mines earn the equivalent of between 60 cents and $1.20 a day when they are given tasks to do. Some children look through the gravel left by the pit owners in the hope of finding a gemstone. When they do, which is only very rarely, they can earn between $24 and $122. It is because of stories of finding gemstones that children like me are attracted to the mines.
But like many others, I was disappointed by the terrible conditions and did not make the fortune that he had heard about.

SAMOTHY

I can’t see my hands in the darkness of my shack made from bark on a hillside in Minnesota. I feel them because of the pain from wounds on my left thumb caused by the knife I use to trim garlic plants. It is dawn and I have to hurry if I want to get a place in the landowner’s truck. I jump from the mattress that I share with three other brothers. I don’t have breakfast because there isn’t any. Nor do I wear working boots because I have none. I manage to climb into the back of the truck before the others, who are adults and other children like me, without a childhood. In the cold and fog, the icy wind cuts my unprotected face, like if icicles got thrown at you. I look beyond my hands and forget my discomfort. My hands are my most valuable working assets. We pick potatoes, extract onions, dig up lettuce, behead beets and cut and gather garlic. I know that I can bring home between $3 to $5, to contribute to the low family income and to buy a pair of shoes. I work in the fields every day from dawn to the middle of the afternoon. I don’t go to school. In my “house”, only a thin sheet separates the cramped “living room” from the beds. A wooden table and wobbly chairs make up the furnishings, as if I was in a surreal painting. As soon as we reach a certain height and age, the children go with their parents to the plantations. We are exposed to the excessive chemicals like pesticides, that are applied to the fields. We are often barefoot and underfed, we drink bottled refreshment to keep ourselves going during the workday. We are often sick, I say I would like to study and continue to help my family. My mother also would like me to go to school, but you can’t always get what you want is what our boss says.

Reflection Blog Post ( Study Skills )

I came to this class because I help understanding math. Slowly, and over time I have grown a relationship with math in this class. This semester we worked on taking notes a little bit. Even though I didn’t come to this class for academic support it is always helpful working on some techniques to help me in the future. And I hope to continue in the future and make improve my math skills.
Keeping a good habit of following all of my learning habits is important. I really think , as a student it makes you happier and a better student. Recently I have been working on my learning habits a lot. After a bit of a disappointing interviews with my previous parent teacher conferences. I think I have made a little bit of an improvement in most of my classes and I think that following these habits give me more time to listen and work in class.
I feel good about this past semester in study skills cause I mean I get things done and it is very helpful, of course it gives me more of an understanding in all my classes. As I said before this class has slowly developed mathematical help, after talking with my teacher ( mr.Creighton ), and as he has talked to other math teachers we have installed a math routine in class. I feel good about this because it helps me and my fellow students with their/my math skills.
An area to focus on is math. Even though there is tons of math help in this class and as I do thank my teachers ( Mr.Creighton and Ms.Khanna ) for helping me through this semester. Obviously this is a study skills class and there are limits but I would have preferred to focus on math more and be placed in math support after talking with Mr. Asher. Nevertheless i had fun in academic support and it did help me .
All in all study skills has helped me with my homework , math and showed me new things such as note taking and different techniques of listening and giving speeches in class. And I got lots of things done. I got a better understanding of fractions and algebra which helped me loads in class

Walking Around Italy

Walking around Italy The Allens walked around italy trying to find a journey.going to Tuscany,Rome, Florence and Venice give the many opportunities to explore and learn.3 weeks of walking gives sore legs. Arriving in Italy and sleeping was a relief for them.straight away leaving Tuscany going to Rome for Christmas. Opening presents Was an exciting disaster. Taking the drive to Florence was a short but a tiring one. After that, they went to the hotel. Without even checking out their room they immediately went to a museum. The museum of contemporary art was amazing. As their eyes dazzled in front of every painting staring at miniature details that seemed impossible to notice or realise to the human eye. Of course restaurants were obligatory for eating scrumptious and yummy food. Missing Florence the Allens finally reached Venice. They had to get a boat to get there. After that, the got to their apartment. Before unpacking or doing anything all of their stomachs rumbled in hunger. So they decided to eat. After, They went to Rome to relax for a week .

The journey was found and some unexpected surprises awaited them in it.

Me+organisation

Using tiny calendar has helped me a lot and I think I will definitely keep using it as a method for homework .

I also use the method on google classroom to see what I have done and what I still have to do so then I can work on it.

I need to be organised more in the morning , by preparing my bag the previous night.
I may want to try to use the agenda for my homework also because I will try all my methods .

My goal for the next 6 weeks is just get my bag ready because that’s a real crisis for me in the morning.

Final reflection for Delhi out and about

All the projects we did in class were extremely fun and some were challenging but some were also pretty easy . Delhi and it’s seven cities was very educating and I got to talk about old Delhi and make a presentation. Kahoot was extremely joyful and it was confusing for my classmates because the questions that my team asked them were very hard and it was the same for me since I had that experience . The Gandhi project was passionate because I got a chance to learn about one of the most important peacekeeper ever.

I definitely am more educated about everything we learnt about in class and I do think it was very helpful and this education did fill in a huge gap of questions in my mind.

I like the Gandhi smirti I liked that a lot because I got to see a little of how Gandhi’s lifestyle worked .

All the projects we did in class were extremely fun and some were challenging but some were also pretty easy . Delhi and it’s seven cities was very educating and I got to talk about old Delhi and make a presentation and doing it in partners helped because it was a long project so having someone to help was extremely useful.

Kahoot was extremely joyful and it was confusing for my classmates because the questions that my team asked them were very hard and it was the same for me since I had that experience  so that next time I will be more prepared for that experience and not be as much confused .

The Gandhi project was passionate because I got a chance to learn about one of the most important peacekeeper ever. And learning about his whole life was interesting and extremely surprising and things I didn’t know were included. And the most important thing was that He definitely didn’t support violence and our generation needs to remember that.

I definitely am more educated about everything we learnt about in class and I do think it was very helpful and this education did fill in a huge gap of questions in my mind.

For me the Gandhi Smirt was really awesome because as I said it was really entertaining to see a little about what his lifestyle . Red Fort trip was not very fun since we didn’t really see it.Dilli haat was fun we got to go around in many different shops etc.The parliament was fun we got to walk around and take pictures. The metro ride was really fun and on the way and back we spotted many important monuments and that was really cool and I enjoyed that very much.
